My perceptions

I read and write for a living.  I have worked at the Austin American-Statesman as a news writer for two years, and I have recently taken on the job of copy editor.  This gives me different thoughts and ideas about other people's writings than most people.  Depending on what it is I am reading, there are several factors I want to see. If it is a news article, I want it to be concise and informative.  If I am reading a novel, the humor aspect is something I always look for, and I try to add it to my own fictional writing.  Basically, I enjoy reading well written material.  Being a copy editor also makes me critical of anything that an author did not spend the time on to make it worth my time to read.
I am not a shy public speaker, but I would not be the first to volunteer either.  I don't mind the role of public speaking at all.  I just don't prefer to be the center of attention for too long.  I consider myself an attentive listener, though, only when I am interested in what the speaker has to say.  I have a bad habit of focusing my attention away from any subject matter that doesn't interest me and continue to interest me.
Finally, I consider myself a novice at technology.  I am not a true beginner, but I am not a veteran either.  I have relatively good computer skills, but I have not had the experience with the Internet that I would have liked to.  I'm certainly interested in improving my knowledge of technology, especially that which will help my writing and presentation skills.  Like so many other things, the Internet falls into the "I'll get around to it when I have the time" category.
